Particle size and purity. Coarse crumb rubber is above roughly 1,000 microns and suits surfacing work. Micronized Rubber Powder is ground far finer - down to about 88 microns at 170 mesh - with low fibre contamination and controlled surface chemistry, which lets it disperse into rubber compounds during mixing.
Typically 5% to 15% of the virgin rubber polymer in sidewalls, treads and inner liners, without sacrificing tensile strength or flex fatigue resistance. This is where most of the 15% to 30% reduction in compounding batch cost comes from.
80 to 100 mesh is the standard fine powder for asphalt modification and moulded rubber items. 140 mesh is a high-precision grade for smooth extrusion and technical coatings. 170 mesh is the ultra-fine grade, around 88 microns, for high-grade tyre compounds and masterbatches.
